All systems are still a GO for the Alberta Cup this week-end!
Fortunately for Red Deer, we did not get hit by the torrential rain that hammered other parts of the province last night (our condolences to other ski clubs).
We had a wonderful dump of snow last Sunday which has been carefully protected by our groomers. Although we hit a high of 11 degrees today, there is nice dry snow underneath a top wet layer – just waiting to be brought to the surface by our groomers in time for Saturday’s race. The current forecast is for freezing temps tonight and cooler weather tomorrow which should further protect this precious lower layer.
Barring any major change from the forecast, we are anticipating offering our racers very fast conditions on a firm/hard base.
Last chance to sign-up if you want to join us! Registration closes tonight (Thursday) at midnight.

On January 30th and 31st we are holding our Bob Johnstone Loppet and Alberta Cup races 5 & 6 at River Bend! We made the call this week that we will be able to make the snow work with what we have (but snow dances would not go amiss!!). As such, I am sending out a link to our volunteer and registration pages.
It is essential that we get volunteers involved and with such a short window of time to do so, I would ask that if you have any time at all that weekend, you consider joining us for the races. (If you have racers skiing, there are still lots of ways you can lend a hand…) You can sign up at the following web pages. If you have any questions about any of the tasks, just give me or the co-ordinator of each area a call/email.
